Casio Solar Atomic Mudman GW-9010

Image
First appearance is reassuring, with the finish looking just as I had wanted it to (proper matte black) and the display looking really crisp. It shows hours, minutes, and seconds, as well as the day, the month, and the day of the month. You get an at-a-glance indication of whether you have an alarm, hourly signal, and/or snooze alarm set. Additionally, you are shown the DST setting, whether power saving is on or off, and whether the auto light function is enabled. There are ten segments along the top of the display which have context-sensitive information in other modes, but which in timekeeping mode scroll across the screen in a 'snake' (so the head of the snake enters from the left every 20 seconds). The last item of information shown is the G symbol, which is used to indicate that the watch was successful in obtaining an update from an atomic time signal station on its last attempt. Remarkably, all this is perfectly legible in the fairly small display area - a real ac...

Tough Gshock GW-9300GB-1JF

Image
Tough  GW-9300GB-1JF  More Info pulled the trigger on the new Black x Gold muddie after seeing DougFNJ's excellent review, Kumazo's pics and LuckyPunk's post. I went with the negative display because I figured I could pick up a standard version quite easily later if I wanted one. I also thought I should be getting something a little different for the price I was paying and the BxG Mudman was more immediately desirable. The price was a on the higher side but knowing Malaysian retailers I didn't think that buying it locally would have been much cheaper if at all - assuming I can even find it when released. So, impatient as I was, I thought JDM version, atomic (though useless where I am) and carbon-fibre strap justified the marginal extra. Despite concerns about its size and legibility of the negative display, I transacted with Chino on Monday and I got my new muddie today, Wednesday afternoon - which was mercifully fast! Size Its size turned out to ...

Casio G-Shock GBX6900B-1 Bluetooth V2 Review

Image
I've always been baffled at the lack of coverage Casio's Bluetooth watches have gotten in F17. I realize G-Shock makes a lot of cool stuff, but as far as looking towards the future, "Smart watches" are the next logical extension in the continued existence of watches. Like many other members though, I much prefer my smart watch to be an actual watch instead of a tiny computer. With the release of the second-generation bluetooth watches (GB6900B, GBX6900B, GB5600B) with two way controls, Casio has gotten closer to getting things right. They're not perfect but they're a good start. I'll be dividing this review into three sections: the watch itself, the app (from an iOS standoint) and the bluetooth connectivity. I've got fairly large wrists, so I decided to spring for the large-case GBX6900. Based off of the new GDX6900 large-case version of the classic GD/GW6900 watches, the GBX shares the case shape with the GDX but not the scree...

Casio G-Shock Aviator GW-3000M-4AER review

Image
As you may know, I am a fan of G-shock watches and am quite happy to write about them on Lost in Mobile because they are of course mobile and they are also technical. This site is not just about phones and tablets anymore and if it was, I would have long ago ran out of things to say. Also, it was with surprise that I checked the latest stats and 26% of the total traffic to this site is heading directly to my recent review of the GB-6900B/1ER. More than a quarter of the traffic since March 17th has been for a watch review which is a figure I can't easily ignore. Anyway, the GW-3000M-4AER is a watch I have looked at for some time from afar and I was never quite sure why. The orange strap married to the aluminium and black resin body make for an unusual combination, but one that works in my eyes. The side view of the watch body is stunning; resin atop aluminium atop more resin with clearly defined buttons that are glossed rather than matt. Add blue accents on the fac...

GW-9400BJ-1JF 'Rangeman' The ABC Survival GS Review

Image
Casio G-SHOCK MASTER OF G RANGEMAN SERIES Barometer (260 / 1.100 hPa) / Thermometer (-10°C / +60°C) /10,000 m Altimeter Digital Compass Solar Powered / Multiband 6 Radio Controlled   From the pics we can infer that it's Tough Solar, Atomic and (probably) has a fifth light button on the front. And of course, the magic words: "Triple Sensor". So it's a good bet it would be the first ABC G-Shock, unless Casio gos the ABT route again, like it has done with all the Riseman. Making an ABT makes sense to me because I always thought that we would never have an ABC G-Shock so that there was no competition with the ProTreks. The 10:58 display on the pics means that this is a mock-up model, it doesn't have a functional module, and the shape of the case reminds me a lot of the 9300. Someone on a Spanish forum even speculated that this case could be a prototype for the 9300, maybe an overall design that wasn't used. And of course there was also the huge ...

G-shock Mudman 9000 review

Image
G-shock Mudman 9000 review Introducing the dust-resistant, dirt-resistant MUDMAN with Dual Illuminator. MUDMAN is designed and engineered with people like motor sport mechanics in mind. Its Mud Resist construction seals out everything from the oil of workshop to the sand of motorcycle rally. A Dual Illuminator backlight can be configured for 3-second or 5-second afterglow for easy reading in the dark. Dual 1,000-hour stopwatches allow simultaneous measurement of two times, which means you can use one stopwatch to time a race and the other to determine how much time is being lost in pit stops. The back cover is engraved with the image of a mole, which represents the MUDMAN concept. DUAL ILLUMINATOR Dual EL panels provide simultaneous illumination of the LCD panel and the dial for better readability when available lighting is dim. The touch of a button goes directly into the Compass Mode from any other mode. A Moon Phase graph gives you an idea of whether the nighttime hours will be dark or light.
